From evil Turk to comrades and back

Diploma thesis "From evil Turk to comrades and back" deals with the ability to use power to overlay one dominant discourse by the another. In our case local orientalist discourse by the new communist one. We have analysed media representations of selected Middle Eastern countries and people living there, published in broadsheet Pravda in two different periods - in 1984 and after 2014. We have analysed more than 50 articles from 1984, and 160 titles, photos and introductions published after 2014. Communist discourse dominated in the 80's Pravda newspaper, accompanied with relevant framing, stereotypes and binary opposites. But this shift was only temporal, and nowadays Pravda shows a comeback to orientalism as defined by Edward Said and others, as well as being present in Slovak folk and art literature for a long time before. Media shifted the narrative from the evil Turk to vicious American, while Islam and "us" vs. "them" division was made irrelevant. On the other hand, class divides were put into the spotlight, with the political left being unifying international element spanning the globe. 30 years later Pravda operates with typical orientalistic framing again - Islam, oriental tyrrany, irrationality or religious bigotry and fanaticism. Information Science and Librarianship in Arab Countries

The aim of this thesis is to describe current situation of information science and librarianship in Arab countries. To introduce and depict common ground, important historical moments for information science and librarianship in Arab countries will be described. Afterwards, field organizations operating in these countries will be mapped and characterized. The main part of the thesis will analyse the situation in each of twenty Arab countries. The analysis will map the most important libraries and universities, where the field of information science and librarianship is studied. Help Development of International Institution and its Impacts

The aim of bachelor thesis is to describe and assess the development cooperation between international institutions and developing countries focusing on Arab countries of North Africa and the Middle East. To achieve this goals were used the most current information in the form of publicly available documents of international organizations. Classification was based on a dynamic(evolutionary) approach, comparison of past and present. The work is structured into five main chapters, each chapter contains several sections.
The status of woman in business and entrepreneurship in Arab countries

The main objective of this bachelor thesis is to outline the factors that affect the lives of women in Arab countries and especially the professional one, which has an impact on their position in business and entrepreneurship. The paper should also highlight the different status of women in various Arab countries and the different career opportunities that the country offers them. A partial aim is to note on various restrictions, which women in their professional and private life have to deal with. The paper should also confirm or disprove the hypothesis, whether the status of women in Arab countries improves. To find the answers scientific publications, newspaper articles, statistics of the UN, but also information obtained directly from the work experience provided by the Algerian businesswoman Džauhar Abdalláh Benzinia are used. The paper is divided into three chapters. The first one makes clear which states are labeled as Arab and how they are geographically divided. It also mentions the factors that influence the character of the local population. The second chapter is devoted to the most important of these factors, which is Islam. The third and longest chapter analyzes the status of women in society in Arab countries. It focuses on areas such as clothing, education, women's organizations, economic life and employment of women in Arab countries. The result of the thesis should be an analysis of the status of women in Arab countries, pointing out the factors that affect their lives (both the professional and the private). In addition, it highlights the diversity of these countries. The paper should also point out the obstacles that hinder women from their personal and professional implementation.
Arab oil-exporting countries: definition and current situation

This thesis describes which Arab countries export oil and how the oil industry influences their economies. The first part deals with the definition of the concept of Arab states in a historical aspect. It defines the states geographically, culturally and religiously. Based on the study of literature, it focuses on the important historical events in this region. The thesis also mentions their tendency to create economic and political alliances. It examines the distribution of oil resources and its production. The second part concentrates on the important economic indicators such as GDP, unemployment, foreign direct investment and current account surplus in the balance of payments. The current account surplus is crucial for this thesis. It is characteristic for the economies of Arab oil-exporting countries and highlights the minimal diversification of these economies.
Religious aspects of the entrepreneurial and commercial protocol in the Arab world

The aim of the present bachelor's thesis is to analyze religious aspects of the entrepreneurial and commercial protocol in the Arab world. Limited by its prescribed volume, the thesis focuses merely on the Islamic religion and its influence. The first part identifies Arab countries and deals with the origins, historical background and fundamental sources of the Islamic faith. It also elaborates on the religious law of Sharia and the religion-bound duties of a Muslim. The central chapter characterizes the customs of commercial and entrepreneurial protocol in Arab countries and analyzes to which extent these are influenced by Islam. The final part compares the conclusions of the empiric study with practical experience of sales representatives in Czech companies trading with Arabic partners.
